Elevations vary from 1,000 feet to 5,000 feet with terrains of rolling foothills to rugged mountains. The lower elevations have warm dry summers with a rainy season from November to April and an occasional snowfall. The higher elevations have an average annual snow pack of 6 to 10 feet. The largest population centers are Grass Valley, Auburn, Placerville and Truckee.
