About GRAYSLAKE, IL
The Village of Grayslake, established in 1895, is located in central Lake County, approximately forty (40) miles north of the Chicago business “Loop” and fourteen (14) miles west of Lake Michigan. Neighboring communities include Libertyville and Mundelein to the southeast, Gurnee to the east, Lindenhurst to the north, and Round Lake and Round Lake Beach to the west. Gray’s Lake, a 78 acre recreational lake, is located within the corporate boundaries of the Village.
A 2003 special census showed that the population of Grayslake had risen to 20,330 total residents. This is a 10% increase from the 2000 census total of 18,506 residents, and a 175% increase from the 1990 census figure of 7,388 residents. Village Building Department statistics show a continued increasing population, with a projected fully developed level of 24,100 residents.
The Village has several industrial/office parks and new commercial developments within its borders. Commercial properties currently under development or recently completed include the 70 acre Center Street Square, Washington Square, the Mapleview Shopping complex, which includes the Jewel/Osco, the Atkinson Industrial Park which is a 240,000 square foot office/industrial facility, Atkinson Center which is an 11 acre multi-use commercial-office-industrial park, and the Route 83 Business Center.
In 2003, Lake Forest Hospital began construction on building one of a planned five building hospital campus in Grayslake. A total of 145,000 square feet of new medical office projects are already developed in the area of the new medical complex.
