About HARVEY, IL
The City of Harvey, a quaint, six square mile community of 30,000 residents, sits in the heart of the Chicago Southland region, approximately 20 miles south of downtown Chicago, Illinois, and 10 miles west of Hammond, Indiana.
Harvey's surrounding neighbors are Dixmoor, Posen, Dolton, Robbins, Riverdale, South Holland, Homewood, East Hazel Crest, Hazel Crest and Markham.
Easily accessible from all area highways and interstates, the City Harvey is also close to two major Chicago airports: Midway International Airport and O'Hare International Airport.
The slogan "A New City Rising" just begins to describe the progressive nature of Harvey, Illinois. Located at the junctions of major interstates as well as four national and multinational railroad lines, the community has typically been "on the go," with a variety of ethnic backgrounds mixing in the community.
After his election in April 2004, Mayor Eric J. Kellogg began a series of City-Wide Clean-Up initiatives to help rid the Harvey streets of crime. Through programs like the Chaplain Program, the Mayor's Intelligence Agency (M.I.A.) and the Adopt-a-Lot Program, the Mayor and concerned citizens have targeted neighborhoods' areas of concern and made significant progress in putting the "Pride Back In Harvey."
