History
One hundred and fifty years ago, settlers and immigrants began to make their way to a special place in the Minnesota Territory. Spring Grove was the first Norwegian settlement in Minnesota.
Not far from the Mississippi River in the south-eastern portion of the new land they found a spring of cool fresh water nestled in a grove of beautiful hardwood trees atop a broad scenic limestone ridge. Spring Grove, Minnesota became a reality.
What attracted those first settlers you can still find here today. Rich bountiful land, gorgeous scenery, a healthy climate and the opportunity to find your own place amongst it. They added hard work, friendship and a willingness to help one another. That is what makes Spring Grove a special place.
General Facts
Take a deep breath of air and you'll understand why the residents of Spring Grove love where they live - the air is fresh, clean, and unpolluted. Traffic jams are not a problem, unless of course it is planting or harvesting season and then you may have to follow the occasional tractor with a piece of farm equipment in tow.
With quiet streets and plenty of sidewalks, it is easy to walk to stores, parks, the school, restaurants, library, and sporting events.
Large, mature trees surround the parks and streets giving the town a wonderful "green" look. A "concrete jungle" it is not. The surrounding farmland and rolling hills add beauty to the area.
The crime rate is very low with a qualified friendly police force available when needed. The police are not strangers to the children of the town because they are involved with events at the school such as hosting a bike safety day each year and teaching a D.A.R.E. class to fifth grade students each year.
Friendly faces are happy to greet you as you walk along the sidewalks in the downtown shopping area.
